We knew that we wanted to use illustrations of scenic views spanning various different types of landscape and from different locations. This would enforce the idea that with Airbnb you can 'belong anywhere.'
We looked at work by Hey Studio, a Barcelona based studio specialising in branding and illustration. The use of geometry, flat vectors and bold colours really stood out to us. We felt that if we made our illustrations similar to this, not only would they be bold and eyecatching, they would fit with Airbnb's brand aesthetic. The simplicity would make any writing or doodles much easier to see against the illustrated background.
